Person talk:John Strong (73)

Disputed lineage

Eleanor Dean's husband may have been John Strong d 13 June, 1612, not Richard. The evidence as presented here seems to refute the facts shown.John Strong's will, proved Sept.22, 1612, names his father,George, brother Thomas, son John and an unborn child.(Eleanor?)There is no mention of a Sarah. His widow married (2), William Cogan. Eleanor Strong, William's stepdaughter married Walter Dean and was in New England. William and Eleanor had a daughter Eleanor Cogan. The wording of William's will indicates that Eleanor (Strong) Deane and Eleanor Cogan were separate individuals.

the Will of George Stronge of Chard dated, 20 Nov. 1627, proved 13 Feb. 1635/36, mentions sons Thomas and Walter, grandsons John and William and granddaughters, daughters of Walter, Joane and Elizabeth. Elder John Strong who died 1699 in Northhampton is called Jr. on his Tombstone. Being the eldest of the name there, this would indicate his father's name was John, not Richard.See http://strongfamilyofamerica.org/sfaapage/eldjohn.html --Scot 15:42, 14 March 2011 (EDT)
