[add comment] [edit] Wrong John Robinson assigned to the land patents on N Fork Goose [6 November 2024]The two land patents dated 25 Jul 1746 on the South Fork of Goose Creek do not belong to this John Robinson. Those two patents belong to "Long John Robinson" who was killed at Vause's Fort in 1755. Long John's father, James Robinson of Lancaster, asked Long John to come to Augusta and obtain land from George Robinson (James' father). The land was placed in John's name, but it was the property of his father who wanted it divided between his sons. In 1753, Long John transferred land to brother William and James. But before he could transfer the other property, he was killed at Vause's creek, and the land was inherited by his only child, Elizabeth Robinson. This was the subject of many lawsuits that drug on for 40 years. The chancery cases can be viewed online via the Library of Virginia. https://www.lva.virginia.gov/chancery/full_case_detail.asp?CFN=015-1762-008#img https://www.lva.virginia.gov/chancery/case_detail.asp?CFN=015-1773-008 https://www.lva.virginia.gov/chancery/case_detail.asp?CFN=015-1808-065 Col. David Robinson (1730 - d 1806 Fayette County, KY) was the uncle and guardian of Elizabeth Robinson. Col. Robinson's sister, Mary Robinson, was Long John Robinson's second wife (his first wife was Mary Crockett). He was also the cousin of James Robinson of Lancaster, who directed his son, "Long John Robinson" to obtain the land. All of these facts are established through testimony by several parties related to the cases.--Jpetrozzo 23:24, 6 November 2024 (UTC) |
