not his will [11 July 2023]

This is not the will of Reverend John Jones, but the will of another John Jones from Botetourt. There are two final entries in the Augusta Parish Vestry book for Rev. John Jones after the death of the John Jones who was the writer of the will. The first, on 16 Nov 1774 indicated that the parish levy was paid to Rev John Jones. The second, on 1 February 1777 indicates that Rev. Jones' attorney was present at the vestry meeting in his stead. Thus the will sometimes attributed to him (and the children listed therein ) must have belonged to a different John Jones. Rev. John Jones apparently did not leave a will.--BobbiC 19:05, 20 June 2023 (UTC)

I repeat, the will reported here is not that of Reverend John Jones. There were two John Jones in Botetourt Co. VA. The Berry reference cited here clearly states that Rev John Jones and John Jones, the writer of the will, were two separate people. Reverend John Jones apparently died several years after John Jones who wrote the will.--BobbiC 15:14, 11 July 2023 (UTC)
