[add comment] [edit] John Gambrel of Prince William County Virginia [8 February 2014]John Gambril appears on the Tax List for Prince William County Virginia for the year 1801 with 3 titheables. This would indicate that he was 21 years or older; therefore born in 1780 or earlier. The other 2 titheables would be white males above the age of 16. Are these sons, or brothers? Is it possible, that since his father, William, was not listed (possibly due to an age exemption), John who was the oldest son still at home became the name on the list? This could be a brother of William Gambrill, who disappeared from the PW tax list the same year (possibly because he turned 65). I remember seeing a single reference to a John Gambrill in Charles County Maryland in the mid 1700s, but cannot find that note. Maybe this is him.--PhilGambrel 17:16, 8 February 2014 (UTC) |
