John Gale's predecessors [16 February 2020]

  1. . Your note that his family came from Lurgashall should have be repeated with the entries for members of that family.
  2. . Lurgashall is in Sussex (or at least it has been in Sussex, not Surrey, since 1900--the year WeRelate measures from).
  3. . Similarly, we have decided that Fernhurst is the name of the parish in our database, not Farnhurst.
  4. . All references to parishes and counties in England should end with the word "England". Many placenames are repeated in Australia, Canada and the United States.
  5. . Dates should be expressed dd mmm yyyy.
  6. . There is no point in entering a date of birth assumed from the date of baptism, particularly if the baptism details contain the place of baptism. Our software program will publish the place of baptism only if there is no detail in the birth record. By entering a date for the birth without a place you do not allow the program to present any idea whatsoever of where the birth took place (and in the case of infant baptisms it is most likely to have occurred within a few miles of the baptism). Why hide information?
  7. . There are no sources for members of this family earlier than John Gale. You state that you consulted with record offices so their documentation should be presented in WeRelate.
  8. . WeRelate exists to permit users to link up with other researchers searching related families. In order to do so with modern technology, data must be presented in a uniform way by contributors.
