There is no evidence of Colliers in Kirkburton nor in the adjacent parish of Almondbury before the 1660s. It seems likely that John was not born in the Holme Valley but was a member of a family which migrated into it from elsewhere, probably from across the Pennines. Place of burial was Kirkburton. There is a cemetery in Cartworth but it dates from the C19th and belongs to Holmfirth parish church. At this time burial was in one of the parish churches, Kirkburton or Almondbury - and in the case of Hillhouse this was 'burton. Place of death was Cartworth (note spelling) I have posted an analysis of the early Colliers in Almondbury and Kirkburton here [1] |
