Person talk:John Butler (2)

John Butler's Place of Residence [12 October 2012]

According to the U. S. Department of the Interior's Geographic Names Information System (GNIS), there are four places in Massachusetts called "Great Neck": (1) a cape on Nantucket; (2) a cape in Dukes County, town of Edgartown, primary name is Cape Poge, "Great Neck" is secondary; (3) a cape and a populated place in Bristol County, and (4) a cape in Barnstable County. Since Col. Banks, in Vol. 3 of his History of Martha's Vineyard places the younger John Butler at Great Neck, without any qualifiers, it would seem that he meant the one in Edgartown rather than one of the other three. Any comments?--jaques1724 16:18, 12 October 2012 (EDT)
