Person talk:Johannes Wouda (1)

According to www.tresaor.nl: Bevolking Tietjerksteradeel Johannes Lieuwes Wouda, grutter te Oenkerk geb: 24 februari 1841 te Leeuwarderadeel Vertrokken naar, Noord Amerika

in the 1900 census he resided in Summit Township, Marion, Iowa He has a daughter: Sjoerdtje

Burgerlijke stand - Geboorte Archieflocatie Tresoar, Frysk Histoarysk en Letterkundich Sintrum Algemeen Gemeente: Dantumadeel Soort akte: Geboorteakte Aktenummer: A 136 Aangiftedatum: 14-06-1869 Kind Sjoerdtje Wouda Geslacht: V Geboortedatum: 13-06-1869 Vader Johannes Lieuwes Wouda Moeder Sytske Jacobs Bottema

In the 1900 census I also found a Sieger vanderWiel born in 1861 who is married to a Sjoerdtje Wouda.

This Sieger vanderWiel is a son of Rentje Siegers van der Wiel and Trijntje Geerts Beiboer who als lived in Summit Township

I wonder if this is the same Sjoerdtje Wouda

Henk,

Nice information here. Here's what I've been able to piece together:

  • I made a family page for Family:Johannes Wouda and Sijtske Bottema (1). It includes pages for each of their 10 children. In the 1900 census, it states Sijtske Bottema bore 10 children, 7 of which were living. Two children died in Dantumadeel, so one deceased child is currently unaccounted for.
  • I don't think the "Saidy" in the 1900 census is Sjoerdtje. The census states Saidy was born in Dec 1874, so she is more likely Saakje.
  • According to Ancestry.com, a Seiger Vanderweel married a Sjortje Wouda in Marion Iowa.
  • On the 1910 Summit Township census, Sieger VanderWiel and Soerdje appear. She is listed as having immigrated to the U.S. in 1882. This matches the year given by the Wouda family on the 1900 census.
  • Jacob Bottema (Sijtske's father) also appeared in the 1900 census in Iowa.--Jennifer (JBS66) 12:29, 26 September 2010 (EDT)
