Klaas, I stumbled upon this while cleaning up the Groningen place pages. Johannes Nicola foto--Jennifer (JBS66) 13:16, 13 December 2010 (EST)

Did you see anything about copyright? Could we just place this foto (mentioning the source)?--Klaas (Ekjansen) 13:52, 13 December 2010 (EST)
His wife was a full cousin of my grandmother. My grandmother (she died 5 years before I was born) had according to the stories of my mother contacts with a younger sister of Elsje: Renskina, just called Kina.--Klaas (Ekjansen) 13:55, 13 December 2010 (EST)

Well, this is a nice photo to have stumbled upon then, one with a close family relation! I'm amazed at the number of photographs on the Groninger Archive site. I guess my getting sidetracked while improving the place pages isn't such a bad thing then :-)

Here is the copyright in Dutch http://www.groningerarchieven.nl/content.php?pagina=overig&overig_id=1. Google translates part of this into: "Information on this website may be freely reproduced as long as it is correct and not in a misleading context and not for commercial purposes. When using information from this website, the RHC Groninger Archives source must be provided." Is this how you interpret the text? Does this seem to cover photos as well? WR is considered a non-profit educational site, I believe, so it is not a "commercial purpose".

I think Archieven.nl was just linking to the Groninger Archieven, so their copyright would be primary. --Jennifer (JBS66) 14:04, 13 December 2010 (EST)

p.s. I found the photo by searching Foto's in the Groninger Archieven --Jennifer (JBS66) 14:09, 13 December 2010 (EST)

First of all, you really are doing a good job. Just to realise opening one window you will find more and more. That makes genealogy an endless game (or task or even stress). The Dutch text says that the reproduction is free for non-commercial use. Just always mention the source i.e the Groninger Archief. I will stay to my Dongeradeel marriages which give me more work than expected, because I try to add also the data of the parents.--Klaas (Ekjansen) 14:54, 13 December 2010 (EST)

Thank you Klaas, that is very nice of you to say! I do agree, genealogy is like a puzzle with an infinite number of pieces. Just when you think you have a section put together - more pieces are put on your table. That is good to know about the Groninger Archief copyright. I may just upload a photo or two then...

I keep wondering how the process of uploading Dongeradeel could be made easier for you. If one year gives you about 600 matches, I would imagine that two years would be less than 1000. In the long run, would multiple-year uploads save any time do you think? There is also the possibility of asking Dallan to allow a gedcom upload of over 5000. --Jennifer (JBS66) 15:20, 13 December 2010 (EST)
