By Boldwood [sic], does the author mean Lucius M. Boltwood, author of Source:History and genealogy of the family of Thomas Noble of Westfield, Massachusetts : with genealogical notes of other families by the name of Noble (published in 1878, well before the Warriner book of 1899)? Because I find that on p. 26 Boltwood gives the name as Scant, not as Searl.

Almost certainly Boltwood. I've searched through what I can find of his writing, and find no reference to "Searle". Perhaps Rev. Warriner was copying from Savage (4:428-29).--jaques1724 16:25, 10 March 2015 (UTC)
