[21 July 2012]

Possible match:Dorothy Herrema[[1]]--henk 15:45, 23 June 2012 (EDT)

Except her husband John Huizinga was supposedly born 1905 in Michigan.

Here is Dorothy's page on wikitree

Thank you, but I'm still not 100% sure that this is the John Huizinga I'm looking for, I have already contacted the contributor of wikitree, but he wasn't sure either--henk 02:40, 24 June 2012 (EDT)

I wonder if Jan and Dorothy were not married in Kent County. According to wikitree they wee married in June, 1927. The WMGS Kent County marriage index goes up to 1929, and doesn't list them. Plenty of other counties they could have been married in, but that makes tracking down the marriage license a bit harder. --Pkeegstra 12:45, 24 June 2012 (EDT)

Following a hint from Jennifer, on the site cemetery.grcity.us we can find out who is buried next to Dorothy Huizinga. She is in Woodlawn Cemetery BLOCK 01 Lot :22_A Space :4.

There is a John Huizenga in BLOCK 01 Lot :22_A Space :3. He died 20 May 1999 and was buried 24 May 1999.

So it looks like you do have the right person.

I'm only 1/2 following this conversation because I'm in the middle of another project :) Not sure if this is helpful, but here is Dorothy's obit. --Jennifer (JBS66) 15:21, 24 June 2012 (EDT)

Thanks, Jennifer! It's good. Between it and Thomas's obituary we get a good picture of the family. Unfortunately, we don't learn when and where John and Dorothy married, or John's parents. --Pkeegstra 15:41, 24 June 2012 (EDT)

I have the obituaries for Gerrit and for John. I also have the death certificate for Gerrit. (I made a mistake on the form for John.) This John is definitely not the brother of Gerrit. Gerrit's obituary mentions a surviving sister Slendabroek and three surviving sisters in the Netherlands. So if Gerrit did have a brother John in the US, he passed away before 1985. Which may be enough information to track him down. When I get John's death certificate, I should learn the names of his parents. Gerrit's death certificate definitely matches his WeRelate page. --Pkeegstra 09:06, 21 July 2012 (EDT)
