James McCarroll [14 April 2013]

A group of us who believe we descend from James McCarroll have DNA tested and match each other. I am the project administrator at www.familytreedna.com/public/McCarroll. There are four men in this group with several cousins interested in the research. One of the Y-DNA participants descends from Simon Washington McCarroll born 1837 in Stewart County, Tennessee. Another descends from Simon Joseph McCarroll born 1827 in Knox County, Tennessee. One descends from Simon McCarrell born 1784 in North Carolina and married in 1810 in Knox County, Tennessee. The other Y-DNA participant is a descendant of David McCarroll born about 1800 in Virginia and died 1891 in Grayson County, Virginia. David appeared on the 1880 census and said that his father was born in Ireland and his mother in Virginia. Notice that one of our participants was said to have been born in North Carolina in 1784, we are wondering if the James McCarrol who appeared on the 1790 census of Rockingham County, North Carolina was the James McCarroll that migrated to Knox County, Tennessee after a few years. There was also a John McCarroll in Rockingham County in 1790. On the 1800 census for Salisbury, Rockingham County, NC was a William McCarroll, an Israel McCarrel, and a Margarett McCarrell. By 1810, there was only a George McCarroll remaining in Rockingham County.

Any McCarroll males who think they descend from James McCarroll are welcome to join our DNA project. Others who descend from James McCarroll and Margaret McKibbon/McGibbon are welcome to join our research group. Email me at dmoneta@cox.net.--Dmoneta 13:46, 14 April 2013 (EDT)
