Case for the James Huston (d. 1800 Mifflin Co., PA) as Christopher's son [11 July 2021]

James Huston will abstract: (Miffin Co., PA W.B. 1:170) dated 10/27/1800, probated 12/30/1800; of Union Twp.; wife Isabella, sons Christopher, Robert, and John; daus. Rebecca, Agnes Ewing, Margaret Borland, Susannah Clayton, Janet, Sara, and Elizabeth; exec. Isabella & son-in-law David McKim

James Huston m. Isabella Neilson 4/7/1765 by Rev. Cuthbertson and had children baptized by Rev. Cuthbertson: Rebecca 8/7/1766, Agnes 10/29/1767, Susanna 1/28/1770, and Christopher 5/10/1772. (A couple of the baptisms were performed at Junkin's Tent, not far from Christopher Huston's property.)

James first appears on the tax lists for East Pennsboro Twp., Cumberland Co., PA in 1766, probably farming part of his father's property. He obtained a land warrant in 1772 (survey C-84, n.49) for property next to Silver Spring Presbyterian Church near Mechanicsburg. He was last on the tax lists in 1774 and may also appear on West Pennsboro Twp. tax lists 1770-1774. He is then on tax lists of Armagh Twp. (part of which later became Union Twp., Miffin Co.) from 1774 on.

In his father's will (dated 1773, though not probated until 1784), James inherited a piece of land that he was already living on. This was another property adjacent to Silver Spring Presbyterian Church. Christopher and James' properties are shown on a 1770 survey (U, n.278) for the Silver Spring Church. Evidently, both properties were leased out after 1774. (Christopher's sons William and John inherited his main property near Wertzville.)
