Jacob Verdon, also known as Jacob Janss, was born about 1600 in Le Verdon-sur-Mer, France, a small village south of La Rochelle, home of the Huguenots in France and their last “safe place”. Marie (Marretje) Thomasdr Badie was the daughter of Thomas Badie and Aeltje Bracknoengie. Jacob and Marie married around 1626. After Jacob died, his widow Maria Thomas Badie was then married to Willem Adriaensz Bennet in 1637. Maria remarried again to Paulus Van der Beek. She had children with all three husbands, 13 in total, who in turn produced 82 grandchildren. She lived through a turbulent time, losing her home in the tragic and viscious conflict with the Native forces known as Kieft’s Personal War--henk 04:49, 9 May 2013 (EDT)
