Wife in Landverhuizer Record [14 August 2015]

Hindrik Meiring had 3 wives in Groningen. The last one, married in 1865, was Aaffien Berghuis. She died in August, 1866. So why does what is almost certainly his (1867) landverhuizer record say he has a wife?

• Emigrant

(Another case where the bevolkingsregister might be enlightening....)

(P.S. in the Huwelijk record all 4 parents have patronymic "Hindriks"....)

Note that he marries Aafke van Kampen in Michigan as soon as he arrives; according to the 1900 census both immigration and marriage were in 1865. Could they have been engaged before he left, and he was thinking of that?

She actually emigrates a year later than he does (1868 vs 1867), but she emigrates by herself, so perhaps they were engaged and by agreement he went over first. --pkeegstra 11:21, 14 August 2015 (UTC)
