- Let me begin by saying that he was a Civil War veteran, and I searched all through the local newspaper records under the date of his death looking for his obituary, even going back to a year prior and a year after. I found his wife's obit, she died after he had. I went through every single paper for all three of those years looking for his obituary and never found it. I have photo copies of his Civil War document showing his name, service rank, date of filings for disability and death, and his additional service in another branch with his date of death at the bottom of the page.
