Hannah Marrett Hastings [14 March 2016]

Before merging one of the roots of this page was (incorrectly) Hannah Marrett Hastings, b. 17 Aug 1668 in Lexington.

The name Hannah Marrett Hastings is a guess in Hudson's History of Lexington, Vol. 2, p. 449, where after naming John's wife as Hannah ---, a parenthetical comment says "(? (Marrett) Hastings, daughter of John and Abigail (Richardson))." Cambridge records show Hannah Marrett's birth 17 Dec 1668. According to Paige's History of Cambridge, she m. Samuel Hastings Jr. Samuel d. 28 Sep 1699. At least four of John Munroe's children precede this date and daughter Constance and son Jonathan would surely be Hannah Mooer's.

The petition, cited on the person page, proves John m. Hannah Mooer. One would suspect she was still alive in 1714 when the petition was dated, but possibly it could be that John was merely acting as an agent for his children by her. If Hannah (Marrett) Hastings [maiden name, not a middle name, as had been input] was a wife of John Munroe, she must have been a second wife, at best. There is no marriage record found. It appears to represent mere speculation by Paige (on p. 613), copied by Hudson, trying to explain why one child is named Marrett. If there is a second marriage, the most likely place for a remarriage is right before Marrett's birth, which is nearly 4 years after the previous child. The rest all appear at regular 2 year intervals. However, the age at death in 1716 reported by Hudson, 42, gives a birth about 1674 which doesn't match the birth of Hannah Marrett in 1668 very well.

Without some evidence, this seems unlikely. --Jrich 00:40, 15 March 2016 (UTC)
