Death Date [21 July 2010]

I removed the death date of 6 Dec 1776 in Rowley, Essex, Massachusetts, United States. It is a different person.

VR Newbury (not Rowley), p. 2:566, has the following death date which appears to be the source for this: Chute, Hannah, wid., Dec. 6, 1776, a. "nearly" 82 y. CR4. Note that the age of death would imply a birth about 1695, so is a very poor match to a person we know was born in 1683. On p. 2:721 is another death record for "Shute, Hannah, Mrs., Formerly w. Samuel Chase, Oct. 6, 1776, a. 81 y." This is notable because the day of month and year are the same, and Oct/Dec is a common mistake if numeric months were used in the original records. On p. 2:101 is the marriage "Chute, James, Dea., of Rowley and Hannah Chase, int Oct. 30, 1762", and on p. 2:566 is the death "Chute, James, Dea., apoplexy, Jan. 31, 1769, in his 83d y. CR5". All these vital records from Newbury strongly suggest this death record applies to the Hannah who married first Samuel Chase, then Dea. James Chuth (Hannah Emery, see here). Further, the Cheney Genealogy, cited on this page, offers no death date for Hannah (Cheney) Chute, which indicates the author did not think this record applied. --Jrich 12:16, 20 July 2010 (EDT)
