[add comment] [edit] Spelling of name [27 December 2011]This page was created 30 Nov 2008 by a GEDCOM upload with no sources. The spelling of the page title, therefore, is hardly authoritative. Since they loaded the father too, he was also Bulkley. 5 days later, the uploader decided they liked the spelling Buckley better and changed it without renaming the page. The father was not changed. So there it stood until recently. The father is currently spelled Bulkeley because that is the spelling used by Jacobus and when I added the name of his wife and corrected his information that was on the initial sparse upload, I changed it to make it match the bulk of the literature (pun intended). The will given in Source:Jacobus, Donald Lines. Bulkeley Genealogy shows him signing his name Peter Bulkely in the will and an addendum to his will, and Peter Bulkeley in another addendum. I am sure there are many other documents where he signed his name, he being literate. For example, Source:Chapman, F. W. Bulkeley Family, or, the Descendants of Rev. Peter Bulkeley, Who Settled at Concord, Mass., in 1636 gives several letters which he signed Bulkeley. Jacobus says the name is based on an English place name, Place:Bulkeley, Cheshire, England. Of course, in the hands of other people, his name is spelled multiple ways, including Mather (Bulkly), Bradstreet (Bulkley), passenger list (Backley, Buckley), etc. Which is right? What is right for Grace? I would lean towards matching her father's spelling. --Jrich 10:35, 27 December 2011 (EST)
