[add comment] [edit] Gershom Gard's parentage [10 April 2016]The parentage of Gershom Gard is provided by The Rockaway Records of Morristown New Jersey by J. Percy Crayon. Gershom's father is stated to be Jeremiah under the Gard family p-289 and the Huntington family pp-137/138. There may be documentation at the Rockaway Church to prove this. There are also SAR and DAR applications that list Gershom as the son of Jeremiah but proofs of parentage will have to be sent for to prove this also. It sounds as though it may just be a matter of digging out the documentation. If Jeremiah was born in 1717 and Gershom was born as early as 1736 he would have been 19 which is very plausible and if Gershom was born in 1738 it is even more so. There is a Gershom listed as the son of daniel Gard but he died in New Jersey not Ohio. Gershom is also listed as a private in SAR applications, and Stryker's Register of Officers and Men of New Jersey. A History of the state of Ohio, states that Gershom Gard was appointed Captain of a militia company in January of 1790 at Fort Washington after the American Revolution.--Michaelyates1 16:29, 10 April 2016 (UTC) |
