Person talk:Gerrit Brinks (2)

Ancestry Tree [3 May 2015]

> possible match: Gerrit Brinks 25 Dec 1822 Emmen father Hendrik Brinks mother Roelfien Gerrits

I see a couple of Ancestry trees which say Gerrit Brinks 15 May 1824 Arnhem, Gelderland father Hendrik Brinks mother Lucia Willemsen

That doesn't seem to be indexed, but it's in ZoekAkten. Maybe I'll get a chance to look for it today. (I can't look at ZoekAkten from my home computer.)

Then again I see a different tree which has the Drenthe birth you found.

Drenthe Candidate. Note that his brother is already known to us.

Gelderland candidate.

Was Gerrit married before he emigrated? Looks like both candidate matches were married in their Netherlands hometowns.

Possible 1870 census entry: https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MHCD-LG3 (Ancestry has the same record, with place 'Holland, Ottawa, Michigan'. Curiously, it has Gerrit born in 1803.)

I think that's a match, even if Ancestry has his birth year as 1803. Note that the children match up:

Jan Brinks, 8 -> Jan Jekel, 18

Albertus Brinks, 6 -> Albertus Jekel, 16

Lammert Brinks, 7 -> (deceased?)

Gerretje Brinks, 4 -> Gerrit J Jekel, 14

Elsje Brinks, 2 -> Elsje Brinks, 12

Hendrika Brinks, 0 -> (deceased?)

So all of the children born before 1867 except possibly Lammert can be attributed to Geertje's first marriage.

I think this is Lammert from the 1862 census, which means your identification of Gerrit Brinks as being from Drenthe is right. If you agree, I'll do the merge. --pkeegstra 12:08, 3 May 2015 (UTC)
The other guy died in Arnhem 1897, so the issue is resolved; I'll go ahead and make the merge. --pkeegstra 12:13, 3 May 2015 (UTC)
