Presenting a Person in WeRelate [7 January 2020]
The amount of information you provide for an individual is helpful, but please take these points into consideration when presenting it.
- If a source of data is a census, then use "Census" as the type of data rather than "Residence". There is always the possibility that a person or a family was at a temporary address on census night.
- A source need only be provided once, no matter how many events it covers.
- Details of a marriage and its source are better expressed on the family's page that the individual's page.
- The "Place" should contain the town or the parish, but not the street address. The street address should be in the description box. An occupation can also be added to the description box.
- If the "Place" is not in our database it should come up in red. If this happens, do a search for the individual place or inspect the county page where you expect the place to be.
- Relationships to other family members can be illustrated by listing the entire family in the large box under Source. Use the data found under "View" in Ancestry. This way you can also discover if the original transciber misread the data. Ancestry has a facility for advising them of errors. :*Use copy and paste from a simple note app (like SimpleNote) to carry the family details to each member. Surrounding the name of the person in question with triple quotes will make the name stand out in bold.
- Carriage returns work in the big source box. They do not work in the very large "Family History" box at the foot of the page.
- Your own ID codes for the people in your family may be simply that. Another user of WeRelate may have no use for them.
I hope these remarks have been helpful. Regards, --Goldenoldie 11:43, 7 January 2020 (UTC)
