[add comment] [edit] Birth date [15 December 2015]The birth date of 9 May 1736 in Bristol, RI, that is found on this page comes from Arnold's Vital Record of RI, Vol. 6, part 1, p.91, "Bristol-Births", the second son of the name Ebenezer born to John and Elizabeth Munroe. The baptism on 23 May 1736 is found Vol 8, p. 168, in the records for St. Michael's Church of Bristol. The birth date of 9 May 1734 is presumably that same date, forced to fit onto the framework given in Jacobus' Families of old Fairfield, Vol. 2, p. 660, which identifies Mary Dunkins husband as "Monroe, Ebenezer [s. of Joseph?] / Born abt. 1734; d. at poorhouse, 24 Mar 1816, ae. 82. / He m. 1 Jan 1751/2 Mary Dunkins..." The birthdate is clearly estimated from the age at death. These are clearly two Ebenezers, with two sets of parents mentioned, being used to provide information as if the same person. The marriage to Mary Dunkins in early 1752 pretty much rules out the 1736 birth without any further consideration, he being only 15 at the time of the marriage, and even the birth in 1734 may be off by a couple of years, as such a person would not have reached legal age at the time of the marriage. --Jrich 22:52, 15 December 2015 (UTC) |
