Is the Earl Thompson who died 1981 the one who married Myrtle? [19 May 2022]

Hi

Do you know for sure that the Earl Thompson who died in Michigan in 1981 is the same Earl Thompson who was the son of William and Virginia Thompson and husband of Myrtle Pettry? The reason I ask is that the death record for the one who died in Michigan says he was born 3 Mar 1899, while the birth registration for the son of William and Virginia says he was born 4 Sep 1899. His war draft registration form also says he was born Sep 1899, although it gives the day as the 3rd. Complicating matters is that the 1900 census (for the son of William and Virginia) says he was born Mar 1899.

I know that many trees say the son of William and Virginia Thompson of West Virginia is the same person as the Earl Thompson who died in Michigan, but I can't find any proof of it. Obviously, his family would know and maybe someone in his family created the first record to show the link in Ancestry Public Trees, but it is virtually impossible to track that down. There are clearly other errors in some of the Ancestry Public Trees (such as saying he married Mary L Williams in Florida in 1924 - that was an Earl F Thompson who was born in Illinois, as shown by their 1930 census record in Fort Lauderdale, Broward, Florida).

If you don't know that this was the same person for sure, I would suggest removing the death date, as it is suspicious at best.--DataAnalyst 17:25, 17 March 2022 (UTC)

In the absence of a response, and without being able to find any further info about Earl Thompson online, I have separated the Earl D Thompson who died in Michigan in 1981 from Earl Dewey Thompson.--DataAnalyst 19:12, 23 March 2022 (UTC)

Hello, Yes I know for sure. That the one who married Mary Overstreet is the same one that married Myrtle. I have his death record to prove it. Sorry for the very late reply. I did not see this comment, until just now. I am new to this site.--Breauna 20:27, 18 May 2022 (UTC)

His death record from Michigan, says he's parents are William Thompson and Jennie Keffer. As for why he didn't list his kids, to be Mary's step kids, it's a complicated family issue. He wouldn't have listed them. Abandoned them, did the fact that his father raised his kids, not make you question? Earl didn't raise any of his kids. Well maybe the last bunch. Who knows? He took off and disappeared no one knew where he went. Not his ex-wifes, or his kids, or his grandkids, or his great grandkids. At least none of the ones that were still alive, that I talked too. His brother Jesse's kids didn't know either. I have been in contact with them, and they had know idea where he went either. Earl's death record finally helped with the puzzle.--Breauna 20:38, 18 May 2022 (UTC)

Hi. Thanks for responding. I'm glad someone actually knows, because the records I could find made it difficult to know one way or the other. I assume, then, that he was the same person who married Cora Davidson. If you can confirm that, I'll merge the pages. Do you happen to know whether he was born in March (as per 1900 census and his death record) or September (as per his birth record and World War II draft card)? If not, I'll include both in the merged page so that future researchers don't get confused like I was.--DataAnalyst 21:17, 18 May 2022 (UTC)

Hello, as far as I know and the other Thompson's that I talked to know, to double-check my facts and Notes. Yes, he is the same Earl that married Cora. On his second marriage record to her, it lists his parents, William Thompson and Jennie Keffer. On his and Cora's daughter's marriage record, it lists Earl's whole name.

As for his birthday, I have double and tripled check, talked to great aunts, etc. I can not find out his actual birthday. I have run into this problem before. They are either lying about their age to appear young for their younger spouses, or older, so they can be drafted for the war.
Or sadly, they forgot their exact birthday, and are just going by a guess.
So, I am not sure on his real birthday. I am sorry about that.
For the record, my last comment(s) was not me saying Earl was a bad guy.--Breauna 03:00, 19 May 2022 (UTC)

Thanks. I merged the 2 pages and removed my comments about them being separate people. Let me know if you see anything on his page that doesn't look right.--DataAnalyst 14:42, 19 May 2022 (UTC)

Thank you. I appreciate it. Earl has more kids, but can add them later.

I am trying to add his death record and a few other records, but it isn't seeming to let me.

I went to add, and upload, and nothing is showing up.

Thank you again.--Breauna 17:23, 19 May 2022 (UTC)

Can you tell me exactly what you are trying to do? Are you attempting to add images? I'm not an expert on uploading images but I might be able to help. --DataAnalyst 20:07, 19 May 2022 (UTC)

Yes, I am trying to upload an image.

I want to upload pictures of his death record, and a few other records. They will be in image form, not PDF.

I suppose if needed, I can upload them to my Flickr account and just link the URL to it, if I can't get it working. I hope I can though.

Thank you for offering to help!

I am doing it wrong?

I go on Earl's page, go to Add, Image, the page to upload comes up, and I fill all the stuff in, and I upload. But nothing shows up.

Any help is appreciated. Thank you!--Breauna 20:29, 19 May 2022 (UTC)

I'm not very experienced at this. I'm sure it should work that way, but I always do it as 2 separate steps. First, select Add from the menu at the top of the page and select Image from the dropdown. Then fill in the info and upload the file. Assuming you get a response to that, then go to the Person page, edit it and select to add an image and then select the small "find" link. Enter your image name in the Page title field. If you still can't get things to work, post a message on the Watercooler page and ask for help - someone else should be able to help better than I can. Good luck.--DataAnalyst 20:45, 19 May 2022 (UTC)
