Wrong parents [29 May 2014]

David Banister Morgan's parents appear to be John Morgan and his wife Margaret (named in some DAR lineages as Margaret Banister but I wonder about that).

Here (p. 158) is a scanned image of the published records of West Springfield. The resolution is pathethic, but good enough I believe to see that the record for David identifies the father as John. Since it is a baptism, it comes from church record, which is too bad, because images of town records are online and of better quality, but not the church records. It is impossible to tell with the resolution, but the year may be 1772, not 1773, since the birth appears to be recorded in Springfield as 21 Aug 1772 here, 4th from bottom, left side.

In 1773, it appears to me that Noah was living in Northfield, and appears to have a son born 14 Nov 1773 in that town here, his previous child born there 21 Jul 1771 (same page). Thus not only do the records show John as the father of David, they appear to rule out Noah.

Was struck by the gap in births shown in the book by Appleton Morgan. It rarely occurred like that and the difficulty/impossibility of finding a record that gives David's birth as a son of Noah makes me suspect he lost track of the family and simply made an assumption without really knowing. --Jrich 04:51, 30 May 2014 (UTC)

Interesting! Given the family context, I thought something was amiss with not only David Banister's birth date, but the place as well. Good follow-up on your part. I'll fix the page. --Cos1776 10:47, 30 May 2014 (UTC)
