Person talk:David Carlock (2)

David Carlock is said to have been one of three brothers, two of whom came to New York in the first Palatnate immigration of 1710, Johan Christ Gerlach, and Johan Conrad Gerlach. Johan Christ and Johan Conrad apparently came in separate ships, with Johan Christ settling in the Mohawk Valley, and Johan Conrad supposedly settling (eventually) in New Jersey.

David Carlock, however, is said to have arrived much later, and settled immediately in Pennsylvania. How this David Carlock might be tied to The brother's Gerlach is unknown. There seems to be little direct reason to believe that David Carlock was in anyway related to the brothers Gerlach.

ProGenealogists give reconstructed passenger lists for the early Palatinate immigration. The reconstruction is based on the "Hunter Subsistence Lists", which they believe are largely the same as the passenger lists, but with some exceptions and additions. (Basically I think they assume that the passengers from different ships largely remained together after landfall. They believe that this is borne out in those instances where they've been able to check Hunter's Lists versus Passenger's lists. However, some persons who were not among the original passengers may have later attached themselves to a different group, and some of the original passengers may have died. The "List Master" was, they indicate, a passenger on individual ships designated to maintain the passenger list. Once landfall was made, these lists were then used to form the basis for the Hunter Subsistence Lists.)

List 6 is for

Ship: James & Elizabeth
Captain: Henry Gravener
From: London
Arrival: 16 June 1710
This reconstructed passenger list is based on the first part (60 names) of the 4 July 1710 subsistence list along with any who appear to have been part of their households. Johann Christ Gerlach, a passenger listed below, was the listmaster on the ship James & Elizabeth which arrived 16 June 1710 indicating most of these passengers were probably on that ship.

Johan Christ Gerlach's family is listed as follows:

Johann Christ Gerlach
Anna Margaretha
Theobald, 10
Elias
Johann Balthasar, 3

1710, Third List

Ship: Fame
Captain: Walter Houxton
From: London
Arrival: 14 Jun 1710
This reconstructed passenger list is based on the first part (75 names) of the 1 July 1710 subsistence list along with any who appear to have been part of their households. Johann Adolph Arthopoeus, a passenger listed below, was the listmaster on the ship Fame which arrived 14 June 1710 indicating most of these passengers were probably on that ship.

The list includes

Johann Conrad Gerlach, 50 (died by Jul 1710)
Margaretha Ottilia
Dorothea Elisabeth, 17
(daughter), 12
Johannes, 8
Johann Philipp, 6
[Maria Margaretha, 2]
