What is the evidence for his existence? [6 May 2016]

The evidence for Charles appears to be the 1850 census, where his age is given as 12. Either the census is correct, which means he did not die before 1850, or the census record is incorrect, and it should have been Charlotte (female), age 12, in which case there was no Charles Starkey (or he was maybe a twin who died in infancy).--DataAnalyst 14:12, 6 May 2016 (UTC)
