Notes from Jim Bartlett (moved here from person page) [26 November 2012]

I have researched the family of Thomas BARTLETT c1733-1806 since 1974. He was born Richmond Co, VA; probably married there; lived northern Fauquier Co, VA 1769 to 1785, when he, and most of his family moved to Harrison Co, (W)Va. We have 9 matching Y-DNA tests from Thomas and 3 of his brothers - our Y-DNA is the unusual E1b Haplogroup. I found her birth date in the typed notes from a Bible that now appears lost (belonged to her brother James b 1771): 12 Jan 1764. So she was 5 when the family arrived in northern Fauquier Co, VA. There are records of her older siblings in Fauquier Co: Susannah b 1753 m c1770 Reuben STROTHER who died c1837 Fauquier (they did not move to Harrison Co in 1785); Elizabeth b 1754; 1m 1771 Fauquier Co, VA Sanford CARROLL who died 1777 Fauquier and Elizabeth second married probably c1784 Thomas ASBURY and they moved to Harrison Co); William b 1756 m c1774 Sarah HATHAWAY b Nov 1759 (age 15, and probably pregnent); Thomas Jr b 1756 m c1783 Sarah UNK; John B b 1769 in RevWar m 1780 Fauquier Co, Anne BARKLEY; Robert b 1762, two marriages, lived in Harrison Co for a while then New Madrid, MO; Benjamin B b 1764 (Anne's twin) m c 1784 Mary Ann Heath CARRROLL, dau of Dempse CARROLL of Fauquier Co, VA; Richard b 1765 died 1811-14 in Harrison Co, never married; Sarah b c1765 m 21 Mar 1783 Frederick Co, MD George FOWKE; etc. How Nancy Anne BARTLETT b 12 Jan 1764 married HALL is a mystery. That she ever first married a CHINN is a mystery. Christopher CHINN would have had to be in/around northern Fauquier Co, VA from about 1779 to 1785 for them to meet and probably elope to Montgomery Co, MD to get married - it's looks like this may have been possible. So when Christopher CHINN died in 1786, Thomas BARTLETT and his family had already moved to Harrison Co. It appears Anne's brothers William and James may have stayed a while in Fauquier Co, VA - perhaps needing to help Anne CHINN (widow). So now Thomas and Anne HALL, late Anne CHINN, of Nelson Co, KY sell land in 1797 - how long was Anne a widow? Where and how did Anne meet Thomas HALL? Clearly from this record they did! The 1798 Deed from Thomas BARTLETT to his daughter Anne HALL of Nelson Co, KY certainly provide a firm link; and list her daughter Elizabeth HALL, which should be added as a child. If Elizabeth HALL survived, married and had children, we might be able to sort this out someday with all-female mtDNA... Jim Bartlett jim4bartletts@verizon.net COS1776: Please write to me about your descent from this line.

Hi Jim - I am very familiar with your good research and we have corresponded in the past regarding this Bartlett/Chinn/Hall conundrum. I am taking another crack at it by re-examining and documenting all of the evidence in the format of these pages to see if anything new pops out. Please bear with me as I get it all entered onto the pages and then I am very happy to discuss it. As before, something does seem fishy about the timing and location issues, so that is why I have returned to this. I have also recently stumbled across some "clues" that I wanted to add to the documentation.
re: dau Elizabeth Hall - I was holding back on adding her until I could take another look at the actual record.
re: the Bible page - thank you for the clarification on what happened to that source. I have revised the citation.--Cos1776 23:24, 25 November 2012 (EST)
