[add comment] [edit] Alice ParcettHer name is often given as Parcett, but I don't know the source of this but Ancestry of Elizabeth Barrett Gillespie, compiled by Paul W. Prindle, F.A.S.G., Polyanthos Press, New Orleans, 1976, Says "She was surely not Rose Lockwood. Since John testified on 21 October 1657 that “his father in law and mother are both dead lately at Stamford,” and since both Gregory Taylor and his wife had died at Stamford within the prior two months, there seems to be a strong possibility they were Rose’s parents, or perhaps Rose was their adopted daughter." If you read this carefully, it more likely proves Rose was not the daughter of Gregory. It appears that his second wife was Alice Parcett, the mother of John Waterbury. Father in law in this context meant step father. If he had been father of Rose there would have been no question that John and Rose were his rightful heirs.
