Winnifred M. Wardwell, 103, a longtime resident of Livermore Falls, died early Tuesday morning, Oct. 29, at Montello Manor Nursing Home where she had been a patient since 1999. She was born on Dec. 10, 1898 in West Enfield, the daughter of William S. and Viola Buck Matthew. She graduated as valedictorian of her class at Livermore Falls High School. On Nov. 5, 1922, she married Everett Wardwell in Livermore Falls. He passed away on Dec. 1, 1963. She worked for Livermore Falls Trust Co. and the Livermore Falls Town Office as tax collector. She also enjoyed many years of being a homemaker for her family. She had been an active member of the First Baptist Church of Livermore Falls and also served as organist for many years. She was a member of Washburn Chapter, Order of Eastern Star and the Charity Rebecca Lodge #10. She is survived by a son, Rodney of Poland; two daughters, Jean Hodgkins of Norway, and Rita Bailey of Livermore Falls; 12 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two sisters, Donnie Mann and Dora Grua; and a grandson, Michael Hodgkins. Kennebec Sun-Journal 30 October 2002 References
