Research notes

Winney Pate, daughter of Thomas Pate and Mary Felts, was born in Virginia, supported by the Albermarle Parish Record (see FSFT).

It is presumed that she was in a relationship with Ephraim and was the mother of at least two of his children, out of wedlock, Thomas Pate & Sterling Pate. Both sons are named in Ephraim's will with no surname. Prior to his death, they were known as "Pate", after his death, they were identified as Thomas Ivey & Sterling Ivey. Census records for them match up.

There are no marriage records found for Winney Pate & Ephraim Ivey. It is not known when she died or where she is buried. It is presumed the she relocated to Warren County, along with her sister, Lydia, married to Ephraim's brother, Peebles. There is a family "rumor" that Thomas and Sterling were raised by their aunt & uncle, and that could possibly be Lydia and Peebles. [Source:kherndon 7/8/2019]
