1938 - An outbreak of polio in the Braintree Rural District prevent children from attending school in Maldon at the beginning of the school year. Returning after this break, Beryl found the fourth year difficult and decided to repeat the third year. She was thus at the end of her fourth year when she reached the school leaving age of 16 in 1940 and she did not take her School Certificate.

20003 - After being cremated in 2000, Beryl's ashes were buried in the grave of her parents at St Andrew's Churchyard, Hatfield Peverel, on 3 June 2003.
