Two brothers, Henry and Benedict Yeary, migrated to Southwestern VA after the formation of Fincastle Co. and first settled in the Holston Valley, then Washington Co., where they were living during the Revolutionary War period.
The records indicate that the Yearys and Balls, related by intermarriage, emigrated from the Fairfax-Stafford Co., area of VA about the same time, and after the Revolution moved farther west and eventually settled in Powell Valley of Lee Co.
... Henry Yeary, Sr., served in the War of the Revolution from Washington Co., and in 1782 was allowed fifteen pounds for a horse lost in service. (His) Revolutionary War service is of record at the DAR Headquarters, Washington, D.C.
