In 1824, William was appointed guardian of John B., Joseph, Thomas G., Benjamin, William Pleasant and Sarah Jane by the Adair County, Kentucky court (source: Suellen Sanders). Is it possible the children had gone to live with relatives following the death of their mother, Betsey Evans, prior to 1820? William remarried in 1820, to Martha "Patsey" Christerson, and the first child of this union was born in 1821. Perhaps this court action was necessary to "reclaim" the children by his first marriage.
In about 1835-1837, William, and his children still living at home, and several (if not all) of his older children and their families, moved to Carroll Co., Missouri. All the men were listed on the 1850 census as "farmers" and most owned their own land.
