William Vessey was baptised on 23rd October 1808 at South Kyme in Lincolnshire, son of a farmer called William Vessey and his wife Elizabeth.
On 17th June 1835, aged 26, William married Ann Pridgeon at South Kyme. They do not appear to have had any children. Ann died in 1839, when she was said to be only 25 years old.
The 1841 census finds William living at South Kyme and working as a farmer. He had two young people called Pridgeon living with him, who were presumably relatives of his late wife.
On 27th May 1847, aged 38, William married again. His second wife was Martha Ward from Great Hale, about six miles south of South Kyme. They married at Great Hale but then settled in South Kyme after their marriage.
They had one daughter, Mary Ann, in 1848. Sadly she died in 1852, aged four years old. They do not appear to have had any other children.
Each census from 1851 to 1881 finds William living at South Kyme with Martha (except in 1871 when she was visiting her sister Ann on census night) and at least one servant. William's farm grew from 41 acres in 1851 to 68 acres in 1861 and 80 acres in 1871, before reducing back to 68 acres by 1881.
William died on 9th October 1882, aged 73. Martha survived him by about nineteen years, and remarried a couple of years later.
