  3. Source:Allred, Marilyn. Town of Warwick, Franklin County, Massachusetts, Genealogical Records 1739-1900, Births, Marriages,, p. 257, has the same problem misreading the birth record as Smith. However, the death of the father more clearly says Tripp, and it appears that there is no such Smith family in Warwick, just the Tripp family.

    Allred, because of misreading the name, has misidentified the son as William B Smith, ie, the William who had an infant die in Warwick 26 years later, as if that required the father to be born in Warwick. The birth record says the father was born in New York and the name confusion shows Allred was making assumptions to start with, which, in this case, are clearly wrong.
