The area reserved was 5 acres fronting Reserve Street. The Eaglehawk Old Monumental Section is laid out in orderly rectangular plats. It has all denominations and a Paupers section. There are many magnificent trees lining the roadways such as Bunya Pines, Morton Bay Figs, Oak, Hoop Pine, Canary Island Pine and Silky Oak. The first recorded burial at the Eaglehawk Cemetery is that of 21 year old John Edmond McDonough. He was interred in Grave 1 Section C on 6th July 1864. Today there is still a monument standing that was erected in his memory. There have been 6 Sextons live in the Sextons Residence formerly located near the front gates of the old monumental section. The cottage was built in the 1870's and was demolished in the 1970's. |

Thies - On January 12 at Bendigo William Augustus Thies of Kirkwood Street, Eaglehawk the dearly beloved husband of Mary Thies and loving father Eaglehawk Florence (Mrs Nicol) William, James and Harold. Aged 78 years
- ↑ Thies - A resident of Kirkwood Street, Eaglehawk for many years, Mr William Augustus Thies passed away on Thursday morning at the age of 78 years. One of the first members of G.U.O.O.F (Eaglehawk Branch). Mr. Thies for 20 years had been employee of the Eaglehawk Borough Council. A faithful member of the Salvation Army. Mr Thies was the first convert in the Eaglehawk Salvation Army Hall and a regular attendant. Services at the home and graveside were conducted by Lieutenant E, Marion of the Salvation Army. The coffin bearers were: Messrs. T, S, & J Henderson (nephews) and F.Arthur (council employee). The Pall Bearers were Messrs. H.M.Hall, J.Crameri, J.Finch(A.M.P) C.Kemp, B.Wilson and Cr.D.K.Murdoch. There are four of a family Florence (Mrs.Nichol) William, James and Harold. Messrs. Robert Rosan and sons had charge of the funeral arrangements.
