To qualify to be able to be listed on the 1905 electoral roll the person must have been born before 1882. Voting was not compulsory until 1925.

The Bassetts listed in the 1903 Electoral Roll in the Bendigo Divison and lived at the following addresses do not appear to be related the Bassett Family descending from John Bassett and Martha Carbis: -

• Kirkwood and Pines Road. Eaglehawk
• Taylor street and Mt Korong road, Eaglehawk
• Hard Hill

John and William Bassett youngest sons of the deceased James Bassett appear to be living the old family home in Hodgson Road, Eaglehawk.

Married couple Francis and Elizabeth living in Richard Lane, Bendigo; had two sons John Patrick and William over the age of 21 who still were living with them, the older children appear to have left the family home. The three younger children Walter, James and George (all unmarried) were not eligible to be on the electoral roll and were pobably also living at home.

Although there are Bassetts in California Gully they are not our Bassetts

Eleanor Bassett married in 1886 to Thomas Henderson and appear to be living in Kirkwood street

Martha Bassett married a Rowe and died in Reef street, Eaglehawk according to her death certificate in 1907

Martha Symons who married James Bassett and then James Rule after his death dies in Hodgson street, Eaglehawk where she was living in 1903 with two Rule family members (children from Jame's first marriage?) and her two sons John and William..
