"The records give him [the father, William Stevens] eight children, but the only ones that survived their father were - Samuel, born Sept. 21, 1691; Abigail, June 29, 1694; and Susanna, Nov. 18, 1698, who married Jeremiah Butman. ... The real estate of the father was divided among the three children above named, March 6, 1713."

[I assume one of these is this William. As the father had a daughter Susanna Nov 1698, and a daughter Mary Nov 1700, it seems unlikely that he also had a son Nov 1699 that died in infancy. Unclear how to sort these out. But whether these are somehow two records describing one event, or two sons of the father, no son survived.]
