William Stamps, our ancestor, is probably the same William St amps for whom Thomas Stamp received a headright on Feb. 24, 1638; and for who m Edward Roe received a headright on May 27, 1664 in Gloucester County. There is a possibility that William's full name was James William Stamps. Several months before Edward Roe received his headright, a James Stampe sailed from the Port of Bristol, destination Virginia.1 William married Margaret Roe, a si ster, or daughter, of Edward Roe. <<Dr. William L. Stamps, grandson of John S tamps, Sr. of Pittsylvania Co., Va, named his son Edward Roe Stamps.>> On Ju ly 02, 1668, William Stamps obtained a land patent for 480 acres in Westmorel and Co., VA. It is now known when he died. The name of only one child is kn own, Timothy Stamps.
