    In the Name of God Amen I William Snelling of the parish of Crawley in the County of Sussex Yeoman being of sound mind and memory do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following First I will that all my just Debts and Funeral Expences be paid by my Executors hereinafter named then I give devise and bequeath unto William Skuce of Crawley all that Freehold Messuage or Tenement Garden and Orchard situate lying and being in the Town and Parish of Crawley aforesaid to have and to hold during the term of his natural life and after the decease of the said William Skuce I give devise and bequeath the same unto my Nephew John Snelling of Crawley during his life but if it should happen that the said John Snelling should not survive the aforesaid William Skuce and if he does survive him then at the death of John Snelling and William Skuce I give the same to be sold and the Money thence arising to be equally ['divided' crossed out] assigned[?] between the surviving Children of the aforesaid John Snelling I also give unto the said John Snelling my Clock Shirts and all my Wearing Apparel I also give unto the said William Skuce my Bed and Linen Goods and Furniture in my two Chambers Kitchen and Brewhouse then I Give unto William Snelling of Crawley Son of my Nephew William Snelling my Watch and Gun I give and bequeath unto my Brother James Snelling and my Nephew John Snelling of Crawley aforesaid all my ready Money Notes of Hand Bonds and all other Securities for Monies whatsoever In trust that they the said James Snelling and John Snelling shall pay or cause to be paid unto the within named William Skuce the Sum of fifty pounds twelve Months after my decease then unto William Snelling and James Snelling Sons of my Brother James Snelling I give unto each of them the Sum of twenty pounds twelve Months after my decease I also give unto the aforesaid John Snelling the Sum of One hundred pounds twelve Months after my decease I also give unto the within mentioned William Snelling of Crawley Cordwainer the Sum of Two hundred pounds twelve Months after my decease I likewise give unto my Nephew Thomas Hards of Ifield the Sum of twenty pounds twelve months after my decease And lastly I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint my Brother James Snelling and my Nephew John Snelling of Crawley aforesaid joint and sole Ex[ecut]ors of this my last Will and Testament in Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal this Seventh Day of August in the year of our Lord One thousand Eight hundred and seven William Snelling (LS) Signed Sealed Delivered and Declared as the last Will and Testament of the within named Testator who at his request hath called us as Witnesses Nath Miller - Edw[ar]d Hard - Edward Stanford

    This Will was proved at London on the Seventeenth day of September in the Year of Our Lord One thousand Eight hundred and eight before the Worshipful Samuel Pearce Parson Doctor of Laws and Surrogate of the Right Honorable Sir William Wynne Knight also Doctor of Laws Master Keeper or Commissary of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the Oaths of James Snelling the Brother of the deceased and John Snelling the Nephew of the said deceased and the Executors named in the said Will to whom Adm[inistrati]on was granted of all and singular the Goods Chattels and Credits of the said deceased they having been first sworn duly to administer.

    At the RISING SUN INN, CRAWLEY, on Monday, July 1st, at two o’clock, pursuant to the will of the late William Snelling.
    A Desirable FREEHOLD ESTATE, most advantageously situate in the town of Crawley, through which is the great leading thoroughfare from London to Brighton, consisting of a dwelling house divided into two comfortable tenements, with sheds, piggeries, good gardens, well stocked with thriving fruit trees, and a well of fine water, in the occupation of Messrs. Skene and Wicks, at the low annual rental of £15.
    To be viewed on application to the respective Tenants.- Descriptive particulars may be had at the Grapes Inn, Reigate; Black Horse, Horsham, Talbot, Cuckfield, King and Queen, Brighton, of Mr. WILLIAM STEDMAN, Solicitor, Horsham; at the place of Sale; and of Cutler and Son, Auctioneers, and Surveyors, Crawley and Eastgrinsted.

    This article would appear to relate the later sale of William's former property several years after his death, presumably linked to the deaths of the William Skuce and John Snelling to whom it was bequeathed for their lifetimes.

    This baptism is at about the right time and in a neighbouring parish to Crawley where the adult William Snelling. However, it has yet to be proven that this William had a brother called James or nephews called John Snelling and Thomas Hards, who are mentioned in William's will.
