Anne Maxwell BLACK married William SMITH 30mar1852. The marriage is registered in Lauder, Berwickshire, and Glasgow. Anne died 18jun1903 (M. Jackson). William SMITH was born 19apr1819 in Harelaw, Carstairs, Lanarkshire, son of Thomas SMITH and Marion LINDSAY (M. Jackson); William was christened at Carstairs 3may1819 (Latter Day Saints submission). William died 12feb1877 at the Manse, North Leith, according to his will. William SMITH was educated at Edinburgh University and was minister in Lauder from 1845, Trinity parish from 1857 and North Leith from 1860. He became a Doctor of Divinity at Edinburgh in 1869 and Baird lecturer in 1875. In 1861William made a will naming trustees John Black, merchant in Borneo Co. Ltd., Manchester and William Dill, minister of Colmonell, Ayrshire (whose sister married into the Barton family). Patrick Adair Black, merchant, was a witness. References
