Mr. William Max Shirley, 78, of 1391 Wilkinsville Highway, died July 10, 2002, at his residence. Born in Albertville, Ala., he was a son of the late Wesley Newton and Dell Treadaway Shirley. He retired from textile engineer for Milliken, Inc., was a member of The Kiwanis Club, and was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels. He was a graduate of Auburn University, and was a member of Draytonville Baptist Church and the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. Survivors: Wife, Hilda Parris Shirley, of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Madge Shirley Patterson and Barry Patterson of Gaffney, and Suzanne Shirley Pedersen and Jimmy Pedersen of Yonges Island; a sister, Helen Shirley Spurlin, of Albertville, Ala.; grandchildren, Reed Patterson, Jay Patterson, Julia Pederson, Helen P. Jones and Jim Pederson.; and one great-grandchild. He was predeceased by a brother, Lt. Col. Courtney R. Shirley. Visitation: 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Draytonville Baptist Church. Service: 4 p.m. Friday at the church, with burial at the church cemetery. The Rev. Todd Braswell and the Rev. Robert Ivey will officiate. Memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels, P.O. Box 1886, Gaffney, SC 29342. The family is at the residence. - Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home.
