Major General William Moore ventured from Kentucky to settle in Tennessee in 1808. He commanded a company in the Creek War, finished the War of 1812 as a major general, and served as a member of the state House of Representatives, 1825-27.
Moore County, Tennessee, named after General Moore, was formed from parts of Lincoln, Franklin, Coffee, and Bedford counties in 1871.
