William Millar was the eldest of seven children born to Isaac & Elizabeth See Millar. He married Mary Suddeth, with whom he had eight children: Elizabeth, George Washington, Isaac, Adam, Sarah Ann, Lucinda, William A. P. and Mary Catherine.
In the 1790s, William came to Ohio and secured 700 acres near the junction of the Walnut Creek and Scioto River. He and Mary were just the second family to settle there in Harrison Township, and they built the first brick house in the area. During the War of 1812, William served as a private in Capt. Rutledge's mounted infantry of Ohio.
