    QUAY 3 "The Late William McRae", "...On the14th inst., Mr. William McRae (Lake shore), one of our oldest and most respected citizens, passed away...a native of Lock Carron, Ross-shire, Scotland, he emigrate d to this country about 1824...In 1829 he moved from Glengarry to this township [Thorah], and became one of its earliest settlers
    ...friends and neighbors induced him to occupy a seat at the Township Council board for some time, and he held the position of Captain in the Militia for many years...His health was perceptibly declin ing for the last two or three years and about 3 months ago he had a severe attack of sickness from which he never fully recovered...His mortal remains were followed to the grave by...between fifty an d sixty carriages - the largest funeral ever seen in the Township of Thorah..."
