Daniel Laughlin and Mary received about 100 acres of his parents land in the 1780's. He received some more after his father's death and then purchased 100 more acres adjacent to the McLaughlin land in 1793
Daniel was a private in the Revolutionary War and fought in the battle at Yorktown. Their daughter Anner kept his war equipment which "consisted of Musket 2 horse pistols and Sword. The fire arms Were of the old flintlock kind, his uniform, and cocked hat. She Kept them in a closet hanging up. He must have belonged to cavalry or some part of the Service in which the Soldier Were Mounted."
The 1782 personal property tax list of Hampshire Co. names Daniel "McGloughlen", Junior with two horses and nine cows. In Daniel's estate settlement, he left son Daniel "one Negro man named Ned" valued at $400.
