In 1894 he lived in Tyrone Twp., Kent County, Michigan; 1900, Everett, Newaygo County, Michigan; 1910, Ahsanka, Nes Perce County, Idaho; 1920 and 1930, Teakean, Clearwater County, Idaho. Obituary PIONEER RESIDENT DIES AFTER LONG ILLNESS. William Mapes, 85, a pioneer resident of Freeman creek area near Dent died at the Orofino hospital of complications Monday at 7 a.m. exactly 10 years after the death of his wife and on the 50th anniversary of his wedding. He had been confined to the hospital 95 days and had suffered illness about two years, according to County Coroner, George Blake. One of the first residents of the Freeman creek area, Mapes settled permanently on a ranch there in 1904. He had been in the vicinity several years prior to homesteading. Survivors are his daughter, Mrs. Eunice Carey of Freeman creek and a son, Marion Mapes of Orofino. Funeral services were held at Teakean at 1 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Groseclose officiating. Burial was in the Teakean Cemetery. Pall bearers were John Lind, Bill Brown, Tom Walker, L. Schleifer, Walter Huffman and Grover Groseclose.
