WILLIAM MAGILL (IV)

William Magill (IV), son of William Magill (III), was born February 27, 1777, in what is now Greenbrier Co., West Virginia, but was formerly part of Augusta Co., Virginia. As a child, he moved with his father to Lincoln Co., Kentucky, in 1785.

On January 3, 1803, William married Mary "Polly" Baughman, daughter of Henry Baughman, who was born November 7, 1780. They had seven children, namely Olivia, Henderson, Baughman, Samuel P., Lorenzo Hamilton, John Frame, and William (V).

In the spring of 1832, William Magill (IV) moved with his family from Lincoln Co., Kentucky, to Ray Co., Missouri. The trip was made in wagons, the family carriage, and on horseback. Along with the Magill family, the families of Thomas Hamilton and Joseph Pettus made the trip. In Ray Co., William (IV) purchase a farm for himself and one for each of his children, except his son William (V), from the United States Government. William (V) was willed the old homestead on the death of his father William (IV).

William Magill (IV) died in Ray Co., Missouri, March 27, 1847, and Polly died there on January 23, 1843. They are buried on the old Magill homestead seven miles northwest of Richmond. William (IV) and Polly are buried in the center of the lot and their slaves are buried around them.
