  • 14 Jan 1758: Last Will and Testament, Orange Co. VA. Returned 25 May 1758: To wife Jean Lucas horse, feather bed, furniture and yearly payment from children. To son Moses Lucas 200 acres on Piney Mountain. Sons Zachary, William and Moses. Daughters Sarah Farguson, Elizabeth Lucas, Mary Ham, Jean Lucas. Pages 263-65. Will of William Lucas of Orange County, dated 14 Jan. 1758.
To my son Moses Lucas, 200 acres, being the lower part of the tract that I now live on clooding my plantation, and 63 acres on the Piney Mountain.
To my daughter Jane Lucas the remaining part of this tract up to Shitten Run.
To my daughter Mary Ham all the remaining part of the said tract above Shitten Run to the head line.
To my daughter Sarah Fargison 200 acres on the south side of Marsh Run dureing her natural life and then to her daughter Anne Fargison during her natural life but if she dies having no lawfully begotten heirs then to my son Zachary Lucas.
To my daughter Eliza. Lucas 200 acres lying on borh sides of Marsh Run.
To my son Zachary Lucas £88 current money on demand and forty pounds of feathers.
To my son William Lucas one Negro boy Peter.
To my son Moses Lucas one Negro boy Robin.
To my daughter Jean one Negro boy Daniel.
To my son Zachary one Negro wench Grace.
To my daughter Sarah Farguson one Negro boy Harry during her life and then to her daughter Anne Farguson dureing her natural life and if she should die having no lawful heirs to my son William Lucas.
To my daughter Eliza. Lucas one Negro girl Patt.
To my daughter Mary Ham £25 current money.
What brandy have to be equally divided among all my children, and Sarah Farguson's and my daughter Jean's part my son William Lucas may sell for cash and pay it to them.
To my son Zach Lucas one pewter dish and six puter plaits and one cow and calf.
To my son Moses Lucas one puter dish and six puter plaits and one cow and calf.
To my daughter Jean Lucas one puter dish and six puter plaits and one cow and calf.
To my daughter Eliza. Lucas one puter dish and six puter plaits and one cow and calf.
to my beloved wife Jean Lucas one horse, bell and side sadie and one feather bed and furniture, and £7 current money to be paid her by the tenth of June in every year by my children.
All the remainder of my moveably estate to be equally divided among all my children.
My son William Lucas and my son Zachary Lucas my executors.

Pages 268-69. William Lucas. Inventory. Made pursuant to order of 23 Feb. 1758. Total valuation £425.7.2, including six slaves willed to Jane Lucas alias Warren, William Lucas, Eliza. Lucas, Saray Farguson, Moses Lucas and Zachariah Lucas, valued at £152., and £128.5.6 in cash of which £88 willed to Zach. Lucas and £25 willed to Mary Ham.

  • 23 Jul 1747: A Lease between WILLIAM LUCAS of one part and WILLIAM SCELTON of the other part was acknowledged by said LUCAS and ordered to be recorded. Orange County VA, Order Book No. 6, 1747-1754.
  • 1751: In Orange County Virginia Will Book 2, page 306-7 shows William Ham Sr. and Jr. were purchases at the estate sale of John Lucas.   • 23 April 1763: Indenture between John Lucas and William Ham both of Orange Co. Wheras William Lucas, Father of William Ham's wife and Grandfather to John did by his last will and testament 14 January 1758 give to his daughter Mary Ham, 200 acres being the upper part of the tract. As it is a doubt whether Mary Ham by the gift aforesaid had an absolute right in the simple to the land, this indenture witnesseth John Lucas, in consideration love and affection he beareth unto his Uncle and Aunt William Ham and Mary Ham, as well as for 1 pound as heir at law to his grandfather William Lucus, dec'd, do hereby grant 200 acres. Wit: Joseph Phillips, Thos. Gulley, Robert Johnson, recorded Orange Co. 23 June 1763. Page 39, Deed Abstracts of Orange County VA, abstracted and published by Ruth and Sam Sparacio.
  • 22 May 1764: Indenture between William Ham of Orange Co. and Andrew Shepard for 30.2.11, grants 200 acres, the said William Ham now lives on. 150 he bought of Thomas Warren, left by will of William Lucas (Orange Co, VA, 14 Jan 1758) to Jean, his daughter, spouse to the said Thomas Warren, and the other 50 acres left by William Lucas to his daughter, Mary, late wife of William Ham, (Piney Mountain above Shitten Run to Headline) and for the whole of the 200 acres he has proper deeds from John Lucas, heir at law to the above deceased William Lucas. Land bounded by lines by Beverly, Lawrence Taliaferro, John Hardwich, and Moses Lucas.   • 23 Mar 1788: This indenture made 23 Mar 1788 between James Walker formerly sheriff of Orange Co. of one part and James Summerville of the town of Fredrickburg in the County of Spotsylvania. Whearas the said James Walker then Sheriff of Orange County by virtue of a decree of the County Court of Orange in Chancery in the suit of Andrew Shepherd and Company, late merchants of Orange County against William Ham of said county did on 177? expose to sale at public auction the following tract of land in Orange county containing 200 acres and is the same tract of land whereon William Ham formerly lived, the 150 acres he bought of Thomas Warren and which was left by Will from William Lucas to his daughter Jean, wife to the said Thomas Warren, and the other 50 acres of said tract being left by William Lucas to his daughter Mary, late wife of the said William Ham , for the whole of the said 200 acres William Ham claimed under John Lucas, grandson and heir at law of the said William Lucas, decd, which lands were bounded by the line of Beverley Franklin, Hardwick, and Moses Lucas in the writing hereinafter mentioned which lands were mortaged to Andrew Shepherd and Company by the said William Ham by indenture 22 May 1764 and recorded in Orange County by virtue of which the aforesaid was obtained and James Summerville having offered the sum of thirty pounds 10 shillings paid by James Summerville for Andrew Shepherd and Company doth sell unto James Summerville the aforesaid tract of land.
